Ol' Boy Cup VI This Coming Saturday Night
LANCASTER, NY (August 9, 2022) … Lancaster Motorplex will be the place to be this coming Saturday night (August 13), as the Race of Champions Modified Series will be making their second appearance of the season at the famed Lancaster oval with the running of the Ol’ Boy Cup VI. The 60-lap event pays tribute to Bill Colton Sr, who along with the late Alex Friesen, installed the first Thermal Foam barriers surrounding the facility.
Several other speedways adopted the same or similar blocks to assist in protecting drivers. Colton also spearheaded the “Super Fan Plan”, and several other programs that helped drive Modified racing and Lancaster Motorplex forward. In addition, Colton also helped build racing careers for many young drivers, most notably, “The Hotshoe” Chuck Hossfeld.
Mike Leaty won the first Race of Champions Modified Series visit to Lancaster in early June. Leaty picked up the win over Patrick Emerling, Matt Hirschman, Andy Jankowiak, and George Skora III. Entering this coming Saturday night’s program, Leaty leads Zane Zeiner by 32 points. Reigning Series Champion Austin Beers is 107-points behind Leaty, with Jack Ely and Patrick Emerling sitting fourth and fifth in points respectively.
The Street Stocks, 4 Cylinders, and Mighty TQ Midgets will round out the racing card. Mark Hoch (Street Stocks) and David Brunka (4 Cylinders) are coming into Saturday night winning each of their last three races. In three races on the ¼-mile this season, Kyle Hutchinson has two wins and Dave Wollaber has one win in the Mighty TQ Midgets.
Racing will begin at 6:30 pm with pit gates opening at 2 pm, grandstand gates, and practice getting underway at 4:00 pm. As always, kids 12 and under can sign up at the picnic tables upon entering the facility to participate in the Big Wheel Races that takes place during intermission.
